About me and my work
My name is Amanda Newman. I work as a fourth grade teacher in Las Vegas during the day and create pet-inspired artwork at night. I graduated Bowdoin College in 2019 where I completed a double major in English and Education as well as a minor in Visual Arts. I studied graphic design in Copenhagen during my junior year. Although Miss Manda Pet Portraits is currently separate from my work inside of the classroom, my ultimate goal is to combine my skills as a teacher and an artist to promote creativity as an essential aspect of education.
Miss Manda Pet Portraits started last year after I made a portrait of my dog, Toby, as a present for my mother. I digitally painted him, then created a hand-painted version. My mom fell in love with both pieces, so I found a way to put the piece onto a mug and phone case. After seeing the joy that could come from pet-inspired artwork, I decided to expand the brand through Instagram and began painting other people’s pets. You can see all of my work on Instagram (@missmandapetportraits), and you can find me in person at art shows in Las Vegas, like Market in the Alley.
